When shopping for internet providers, the choices can seem confusing at times. Do you want cable internet, DSL, bundled services with phone and television, or the superfast connections of Verizon FIOS and AT&T Uverse? You’ll want to compare different providers, their plans, speeds and costs.
The first thing to do is determine who are the Internet Service Providers in your area. This is pretty easy. Most companies ask you to enter your zip code to determine eligibility. Just because a company offers service within a state does not mean that they are available in all parts of the state. After determining what providers are in your area, take a look at the different plans.
Ask yourself, do you want DSL or cable internet? Will you be satisfied with basic service, or do you need a really fast speed? If they are available to you, Verizon FIOS and AT&T Uverse are in a class by themselves. They are the fastest speeds. FIOS is the only 100% fiber optic network. Look at the plan to determine if a modem is included, and if the special prices apply only if you have phone service through a particular company.
If you are just doing email and browsing, you may not need the highest speed. But if you are sending pictures, downloading videos, or playing games, you’ll need a faster speed.
Finally, read the fine print about special promotions. Some internet services are offering enticements like free service for one to six months, free installation and activation, and they include modems, routers, and wi-fi. Check to be sure that you need all the promotions they are offering. It’s a good idea to know what length of a contract you are locked into for subscribing at the special price.
Finally, it really pays to sign up online. You’ll get discounts that no one else knows exist, and you’ll be able to read about and compare services.
