The top internet speed currently available to homes is about 50 megabits per second. This is Verizon’s fiber optic network, FiOS. If Google has their way, the internet will get even faster. They intend to build a fiber optic network that is direct to home, capable of delivering information at speeds of up to one gigabit per second. To do this, Google is asking communities to partner with them before March 26 and submit information so that they can be considered for this incredible and historical beta test. This could change the way the internet works, the way software is designed, and the way we use broadband to connect with one another.
